What is Freestyle Basketball?

Hovering between sport and performing arts, freestyle basketball combines the best of both worlds.
Classic basketball handling presented in an artistic fashion, borrowing elements from dance, circus,
and other movement arts. Dribble, roll, juggle & spin the basketball. Express yourself in ways a
basketball coach would never allow.

teach freestyle basketball in the English language, Bavo has honed his ability to connect with aspiring freestyle basketball enthusiasts across Australia. He has successfully coached students of various ages and skill levels, making his workshops accessible to all. This unique blend of basketball and performing arts does not only appeal to sporty kids, but also to those with artistic interests.

Safety

Bavo understands the importance of providing a safe and secure environment for young participants. He holds Public Liability Insurance and has a valid Working with Children check, ensuring that your child’s wellbeing is the top priority throughout the workshop.

Requirements

Location

The workshop is to be held on a surface that is suited for dribbling basketballs (i.e. not on grass), preferably indoors or under cover. Exceptions to this can be made so long as the weather forecast gives 0% chance of rain on the day. This is to ensure that the basketballs’ grip is not affected by the rain or a wet floor.

While the workshop can be held on a basketball court, it is not necessary. There is no shooting at a hoop in freestyle basketball, and therefore the hoop might even be distracting for certain kids.

Duration

The workshop takes 1 hour. It can be shortened to
accommodate students’ schedules.

Age

This workshop is suited for ages 8 and up. While a group with mixed ages can work, the closer everyone is in age, the more Bavo can guarantee the right amount of challenge for everyone.

Participant number

The minimum requirement is just three participants, while the maximum capacity reaches 25. This flexibility ensures that every attendee receives individual attention and an immersive learning experience.

Equipment

To make the most out of the workshop, every participant needs a basketball.

Basketballs need to either be provided by the client organisation, or the client rganisation needs to communicate to the participants to bring a basketball of their own.

Ages 812 will be best off with a size 5 basketball, while ages 12+ will be fine with a size 7 basketball.

If running short, Bavo can supply up to 10 of his own size 7 basketballs.
